The grassroots club which produced the Ameobi brothers has revealed its brand new pitch.

The 3G all weather surface cost £450,000 and has taken three years and two months to fit at Walker Central's Monkchester Road Training base.

Brian Clark co-founded Walker in 1988 with former Newcastle star and current Birmingham manager Lee Clark.

Brian has unearthed over £27million worth of talent in the North East as a scout, including Gazza and says getting the pitch was not easy,

“We had a lot of set backs along the way.

"People were saying they would give us this and that and then they’d pull out.

"It was only going to be a mini size pitch but I didn’t want that so it took a bit longer.”

The club hopes to find more footballers like Newcastle United’s up and coming winger Michael Richardson who played at the club for two years.

Brian said the new pitch would benefit the whole community.

He said: "It’s a real football area, [the pitch] is something they needed.

"The club is young in a lot of ways and this is what they need to produce more footballers.

"I hope this will help get more kids into football and off the street corners."
